Verla Mae Barrier Oliver, 89, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on Saturday, July 3, 2021, at Maple Leaf Health Care in Statesville, N.C. Born March 27, 1932, in Watauga County, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Oliver Howard Barrier and Ella Mae Hall Barrier.

Mrs. Oliver was retired from Trend Textiles. She was proud of her family and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Mrs. Oliver was preceded in death by her husband, Rufus L. Oliver; daughter, Darlene Oliver; and one sister, Virginia Small.

She is survived by her sons, Darrell Lee Oliver (Debbie), of Statesville, and Deric Rufus Oliver, of Statesville; daughters, Donna Compton (Keith) of Statesville, and Dana Moore (Mark) of Mooresville; 10 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 8, 2021, at the Cavin-Cook Funeral Home Chapel, Mooresville, with Brandon Tolley officiating.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m. prior to the service. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 9, 2021, at Blue Ridge Memorial Park, Lenoir.
