Wayne Leroy Owens II, who was affectionately known as “Big Wayne,” “Daddy Wayne” and “Pappaw,” passed away on Thursday, August 5, 2021. Born on April 29, 1960 in Wayne County, Ind., he was the son of the late Wayne Leroy Owens Sr. and Mona Lee Adkins Wood.
“Big Wayne” had a passion for fishing and made sure that he had always caught the “biggest fish” than anyone else. He enjoyed sharing his stories from his truck driving days and instilled a strong work ethic in his four sons. Having loved and cherishing his family, he was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother and pappaw.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne Leroy Owens Sr. and Mona Lee Adkins Wood. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 26 years, Sherri Stout Owens; his sons, Jonas Nathaniel Campbell, Jesse Wayne Owens and his wife Lindsay, Gary Wayne Owens and Wayne Leroy Owens III; his grandchildren, Ethan Day, Carson Paul, Gentry Lee, Stella Grace and Jackson Reid; his siblings, Ann Mullins and her husband Tim, Robin Wood, Susie Combes and her husband Butch, Ronald Lee Steins, Debbie Bailey and her husband Mike, Nancy Jane Wood, Cindy Wood and Shannon Kilpatrick; and many nieces and nephews and other extended family members.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 10, 2021, at Nicholson Funeral Home. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at a later date.
