Arlene Maynard Burgess, 76, of Statesville, N.C., passed away peacefully on Monday, April 18, 2022, at her home. Born on March 27, 1946, in Charleston, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Sherrell Maynard and Lovie Baisden Maynard.

In addition to her parents, Sherrell and Lovie Maynard, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Burgess; son, Terry Lee Butcher; sisters, Wilma Jean Kersey, Polly Holmes, and Patty Ernest; and brothers, James Maynard, Jacob Maynard, and Sherrell Maynard Jr.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Tammy Wilcox (Kenneth), Penny Russ, and Carolyn Vallandingham (Edward); grandchildren, Rickie Lee Jenkins Jr., Joshua A. Jenkins, Erika Russ, Emily Russ, Tyler Russ, Zachary Thompson, Kelsee Thompson, Kimberly Hicks, and Misty McGill; great grandchildren, Makayla Jenkins, Allysa Jenkins, Zaeden Jenkins, Bella Jenkins, Matthew Jenkins, Callie Jenkins, Cloie Jenkins, Kamden Thompson, Amelia Thompson, Morgan Banghart, Jadan McGill, Brenna Hicks and Kyler Hicks; great-great grandchildren, Levi Morrison and Maddox Morrison; and her sisters, Pearl Thompson and Pam Maynard.

Arlene loved gardening and to travel, especially going on cruises. She loved and cherished her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 27, 2022, in the Chapel of Nicholson Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
