Avery William Harwell, 91, of Statesville, N.C., passed away Thursday, February 10, 2022, at Autumn Care of Statesville.

Mr. Harwell was born May 18, 1930, in Iredell County, N.C., and was the son of the late Avery Buford Harwell and Lois Lippard Harwell.

He was a graduate of Statesville High School and served in the U.S. Navy. On May 20, 1951, he married Elizabeth “Betty” Sipes Harwell, who survives. He worked for Southern Screw Co. for 40 years and loved his garden, messing around outdoors and fixing things.

He was preceded in death by one son, Ernest William Harwell, who passed away, June 3, 2008, and eight siblings.

In addition to his wife, Avery is survived by one sister, Ann Mayberry, and two grandsons, Grant William Harwell and Blake William Harwell.

A private family graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 13, 2022, at Glenwood Cemetery.
