Cecelia Kay Chauncey Matthews, 59, of Statesville, N.C., passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at her home. Born on July 15, 1962, in Caldwell County, she was the daughter of the late Robert White and Marilyn Edwina Shell White.

Cecelia was a CNA and worked at Journey’s Rest Home and Hoots Memorial Hospital in Yadkin County, N.C. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting, and in her younger years she enjoyed horseback riding. Cecelia also loved her red 1997 Camaro. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother who cherished spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Nancy Fraley.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Donald Kevin Matthews, with whom she shared 20 wonderful years; daughters, Jennifer Nichole Rivera and husband Ralph Vincent Rivera, Krystal Ann Chauncey, and Kayla Marie Moore; her grandchildren, Adam Preston Bingman, Isabel Marie Bingman, Thomas Smith Bingman, Savanna Nicole Rayne Rivera, Naomi Alyssa Kay Rivera, Octavia Esther Marie Rivera, and Daniel Vincent Rivera; and her brother, David Smith.

A Celebration of Cecelia’s Life will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, 2022, in the Chapel of Nicholson Funeral Home with Heather Besoiu, Funeral Celebrant officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 4 p.m. in the Chapel until the time of the service.
