Charles “Charlie” Andrew Ammons, 88, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on Monday, April 11, 2022, at Iredell Memorial Hospital in Statesville, N.C., surrounded by loved ones.
Charlie was born on December 29, 1933, in Conway, S.C., to the late Willie Ira Ammons and Courtney Ann Cooper Ammons. Charlie was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He loved his family more than life itself and would often charm a room full of people with his laugh and skills on the harmonica. He was a proud member of the Waccamaw Indian tribe of Aynor, S.C. Mr. Ammons served proudly in the U.S. Air Force and Army before his over 50-year career in the trucking industry.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Elwood Ammons, Woodrow Ammons (Lucille), Bill Ammons, and Arthur Ammons (Dean); and sisters, Gladys Ammons and Edna Hatcher (Wade).
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joann Culbertson Ammons; children, Mark Ammons (Dori), Tim Ammons (Kim), Belinda Chatham (Dale), Courtney Spry (Todd), Windy Hooper, and Lisa Ammons; 26 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. Also surviving are Charles’ sisters-in-law, Joan Ammons and Elizabeth Ammons; and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends on Friday, April 15, 2022, from 1 to 2 p.m. with a service following at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home Chapel with Darin Martin officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow the service at Glenwood Memorial Park.
