Dennis John McGee, 81, died Thursday, November 3, 2022 at Novant Health Huntersville Medical Center.
He leaves behind his wife of 45 years, Rosalie McGee; his daughter Phyllis Lomangino and husband Leo Lomangino; son Vito Motisi and wife Ann-Marie Motisi; daughters Diane Bassett and Joanne Benkert (predeceased); son John McGee. Also, his brother Robert McGee and wife Janice McGee and sister-in-law Frances Fusaro, along with 14 grandchildren, six great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and many close friends.
He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on October 8, 1941, to John and Barbara McGee. He eventually moved to Long Island, N.Y. Dennis joined the U.S. Navy at age 17 and served from 1958-1964. He later served as a volunteer fire fighter for the Wyndanch Fire Department, where he eventually became fire chief. He worked for News Day in Melville, N.Y., and retired to Mooresville, N.C.
Dennis was a kind-hearted man who loved his family and friends. His wife Rosalie and his children and grandchildren were his world, and he loved spending time with them.
He loved playing golf in his spare time and enjoyed a good meal and a cold beer with his family on Sundays. He was larger than life and will be extremely missed by all who loved him.
A visitation will be held at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home & Crematory, Mooresville, N.C., on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, from 4 to 6 p.m. with a prayer service at 5 p.m.
