Dixie Propst Houston, 82, of Statesville, N.C., passed away unexpectedly on January 29, 2022, at the home. She was born in Catawba County, N.C., to the late Marion Oscar Odom and Lela Boone Richardson Odom on October 19, 1939.

Dixie was a member at Southern Missionary Baptist Church in Taylorsville. She worked at West Iredell High School as custodian for over 20 years. She was an avid artist and has done much painting for family members.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David O’Neil Houston; three brothers, Harland Odom, Floyd Odom, and Daniel Odom; and one sister, Lola Miller.

Survivors include one son, Barry Wayne Propst of Olin; one daughter, Bonita Kay O’Brian of Matthews; four sisters, Linda Pruitt of Hickory, Connie O. Eckard of Statesville, Marilyn O Lail and husband Lonnie of Hickory, and Shirley O. Pittman of Taylorsville; three grandchildren, Vincent Owen Propst, Grady Tray Rector III and wife Jessye, and Barry Nicholas Olin Propst II; and two great-grandchildren, McKinley Rector, Norah Rector.

Services will be held later.
