Gary “Bucky” Lee Bumgarner, 65, of Troutman, N.C., passed away on February 8, 2022. He was born on August 20, 1956, in Huntersville, N.C., to the late Ralph and Margie Fleanor Bumgarner.

Bucky had worked for Joe Gibbs Racing for over 30 years and was considered an icon there. He loved golf and always enjoyed being with his many golf buddies. He was a man that was full of life. He had a big heart, made great pancakes for his grandkids, and would always help anyone he could. Bucky was always laughing, smiling, and had a witty sense of humor. He was a good friend to everyone. He enjoyed camping and coaching his son’s teams as they were growing up. He was a good mentor to a lot of young people. Bucky was always a hard worker and an honest and loyal man. He was loved by all his family and friends and will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Rhonda Joyner Bumgarner; children, Josh Bumgarner (Lara) and Dustin Bumgarner (Hayley); grandchildren, Levi, Lyla Gray, Brayden and Mallory Bumgarner; and siblings, Mike Bumgarner (Debbie), Nancy Bumgarner, Billy Bumgarner (Pam), and Tony Bumgarner.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at 11 a.m. at Rocky Mount Church, Mooresville, N.C., with Pastor Byron Wicker officiating. The family will receive friends after the service from 12 noon to 1 p.m. in the narthex of the church.
