James Lee Barnes, aka “Jimi Bones,” 38, of Statesville, N.C., passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, at his residence.

Jimi was born August 5, 1983, in Rowan County, N.C. He was employed by Sherwin-Williams in Statesville. Jimi was a member of Strait Way Missionary Baptist Church in Troutman. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, fishing, kayaking, and spreading the Word of the Lord.

He is survived by his mother, Laura Yates; two sisters, Nicole Watson of Florida and Brandy Butler of North Carolina; two nephews, Jasper Watson and Josef Butler; one niece, Gracie Butler; and cousins, Nina and Brian French of North Carolina.

A memorial service will be held on July 22, 2022, at 5 p.m. at Strait Way Missionary Baptist Church, 629 Ostwalt Amity Road, Troutman, with Pastor Rick Davis officiating.
