Karen “Denise” Wood, 60, of Statesville, N.C., gained her angel wings on February 4, 2022, at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville after a courageous battle with cancer.

Denise was born on December 6, 1961, in Iredell County to the late Billy Ray Wood and Lala Hall Wood. She was a strong woman and was an amazing mother and grandmother with a heart of gold. Denise worked in the textile industry in her younger years and enjoyed gardening and spending time with her granddaughter “little princess.”

She is survived by her beloved son, Gary Franklin Wood and wife Kimberly LaNay Wood of Statesville, and a granddaughter, Danielle Marie Wood. Also surviving are maternal aunts, Elsie H. Kamps, Lucy H. Money, Lois H. Tomlin and Norma H. Harder; and special cousins, Cheri Tomlin Ellis, Terri Avramis and Deborah Brotherton; and her close friends, Cleo Martin and Geraldine Smith, all of whom will miss her dearly.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 10, 2022, at Hebron Baptist Church with Rev. Darren Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Hebron Baptist Church Sanctuary from 10 until 11 a.m. on Thursday prior to the service. The family asks that any donations, be made to Hebron Baptist Church in loving memory of Denise.
