Marvin Eber Hudson, 95, of Statesville, N.C., passed away peacefully Saturday, April 2, 2022, at the Gordon Hospice House.
Eber was born March 10, 1927, in Iredell County and was the son of the late George Marvin Hudson and Annie Laurie Ballard Hudson. He was a graduate of Statesville High School and Wake Forest University and received his master’s in education from Appalachian State University. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy and June 7, 1947, he married Margaret Bost Hudson, who survives.
Mr. Hudson worked for thirty years as a dedicated teacher and principal in the Iredell-Statesville Schools. Over the years he taught at a number of different schools. But he most loved working at Celeste Henkel Elementary School, first as a teacher and then as principal. His impact on young minds has been far reaching.
He was a long-time member of Western Avenue Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School and was a deacon. In 2012 he was honored by being named as Deacon Emeritus at the church. His civic interests included the West Iredell Lions Club and Gideons International.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Ida Margaret Hudson Benson (Bill); three grandchildren, Corrie Elizabeth Marsh (Roger), Christopher Martin Benson Sr. (Gerri), and Kevin Charles Benson (Ashley); eight great grandchildren, Kaylee and Hudson Marsh, Chris Benson Jr., Chloe Benson, Garrett and Mason Cook, and Jack and Zoey Benson; and one sister-in-law, Nancy Walters of Raleigh.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Nancy Katherine Hudson, and sister, Katherine Hudson Wilson.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 7, 2022, at Western Avenue Baptist Church with Rev. Andy Lackey officiating. Burial will follow in the Iredell Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at the church.
