Mrs. Mary Louise “Miss Mary” Flowers Summers, 80, was born in Catawba County, N.C., on September 10, 1942, and was the daughter of the late James Robert Flowers and Cleo Mary Jane Dula Flowers. She departed this life on Tuesday, September 13, 2022.
Mary attended Unity High School, and prior to her retirement was employed as a cook at Fifth Street Ministries in Statesville, N.C. She was a faithful member of St. James First Baptist Church, Mooresville. Miss Mary enjoyed cooking, planting flowers, going to yard sales, and coordinating family events.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her second husband, James Hezekiah Summers; two brothers, Odell Flowers and Charlie Floyd Flowers; and one sister-in-law, Carolyn Flowers.
She leaves to cherish the memory of her life her first husband and the father of her children, Roger Eugene Shade; two sons, James Franklin Shade Jr. (Teresa) of Harmony, N.C., and Allan Durand Shade of Claremont, N.C.; two daughters, Nancy Marie (Joseph) Robinson of Hickory, N.C., and Sondra Renee (Keith) Turner of Statesville; one brother, George (Patricia) Flowers of Hartford, Conn.; one sister, Helen Gaither of Hickory, N.C.; a sister-in-law, Ronnie Flowers of Huntersville, N.C.; special cousins, Winnie Faye Dula of Hickory and Clara Mayes of Taylorsville, N.C.; special friend, Miss Marie Randolph; grandchildren, Keyara Kimbrough and Tenara Kimbrough of Statesville, Michael Shade (Chacora) and James Shade of Charlotte, N.C., Joscelynn Shade of Texas, Jazmin Shade of the United States Air Force, Jada Shade of Arizona, Janae Robinson of Hickory, Demarcus Shade of Greensboro, N.C., and Allan “A.J.” Shade II of Claremont, NC; great grandchildren, Tevin Seymore, Keyannah Graham, and Keandre Williams, all of Statesville, Braelyn Shade and Jayden Shade, both of Charlotte, and Maleah Kimbrough of Statesville; a host of nieces and nephews, some of whom were raised in the same house, other relatives, church family, and friends.
