Nelson Dewey Weicht, 88, of Statesville, N.C., died Saturday, September 3, 2022, at the Gordon Hospice House. He was born in Alleghany County, Md., on May 7, 1934, to the late Dewey Nelson Weicht and Mae Ruth Trail Weicht, and was the last of their eight children to die.

Nelson was also preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years, Alice Tracy Weicht, in April of this year; and by a son, Ricky Weicht.

Eighteen years ago, Nelson and Alice moved to Statesville, where they became members of Rose Chapel United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Hancock, Md. He loved hunting, horseback riding, spending time in the woods, and gardening.

Those left to cherish his memory include a son, Jeffrey Weicht; two grandchildren, Jared Weicht (Paula) and Ryan Keifer; and nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held Friday, September 9, 2022, at 12 noon at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main Street, Hancock, Md. Mr. Weicht will lie in state from 11:30 a.m. to 12 noon prior to the service. Burial will follow at Piney Plains Methodist Church Cemetery in Little Orleans, Md.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625, or to Rose Chapel UMC, 813 Turnersburg Highway, Statesville, NC 28625.
