Ray Carlton Tilley of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on June 9, 2022, at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center. He was born on August 1, 1942, in Cabarrus County. He was the son of the late Alfred Woodrow Tilley and Bessie Rea White.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Kezzie Rea Stutts, and brother, Albert Tilley.
Those left to remember him include his wife of 56 years, Anna Douthit Tilley of Mooresville, N.C.; his two children, Jonathan Ray Tilley (Lara) of Mooresville, N.C., and Lori Rene Tilley, of Mooresville, N.C.; and his sister, Betty Jean Rogers of Kannapolis, N.C. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Matthew Carlton Tilley (Caroline), and Rebecca Ann Gilbert (Dalton). He leaves behind two great-grandchildren, Weston James Gilbert, and Samuel Anderson Tilley.
Ray was a faithful member of Liberty Baptist Church in Mooresville, N.C., where he enjoyed singing in the choir. He was a longtime employee of Dai Nippon (DNP) in Concord, from which he retired in 2007, and had earned an Associate Degree in Industrial Management from Mitchell Community College.
Ray was known by those who were close to him as one who took great pride in his family and his church. He loved the outdoors and activities such as fishing and hunting, which he enjoyed with his son and grandson. He also loved gardening and was always excited to share his harvest with others around the table. He made friends easily and cherished the friendships that he made. It could be said that Ray never met a stranger.
The family will receive friends Saturday, June 11, at Liberty Baptist Church in Mooresville, N.C., from 1:30 to 3 p.m. The funeral service will begin at 3 p.m. in the church sanctuary with Pastor Eddie Graham and Rev. Scottie Calloway of Marion, N.C., officiating. Burial will follow at the Liberty Baptist Church cemetery.
