Reponda Ruth Smith, 59, of Statesville, N.C., passed away on August 27, 2022, in her home. She was born December 27, 1962, to James Powell and Delet Reid Powell of Iredell County, N.C.

Reponda was preceded in death by her parents, James and Delet Powell.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 25 years, Ken “Kenny” Smith; her daughters, Madelyn and Holly; mother-in-law, Brenda Fauler (Don); father-in-law, Wayne Smith (Diane); uncle, Bill Powell (Robbie); and cousin, Reid York (Charlotte).

Reponda was baptised under Baptist faith. She graduated from North Iredell High School, then Mitchell Community College with an associates degree, and finally Gardner-Webb with her bachelor’s degree. Reponda enjoyed photography, chorus, watercolors, flowers, spending as much time on the beach collecting shells as possible, and gardening.

A lie in repose is being held Friday, September 2, from 12 to 7:30 p.m. at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home. A graveside service is scheduled for Saturday, September 3, at Grassy Knob Cemetery in Union Grove at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Reponda Powell Smith Memorial Scholarship Fund at Mitchell Community College.
