Sylva Parsons Hutchens, 91, of Statesville, N.C., passed away on August 17, 2022, at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville. Sylva was born September 21, 1930, to the late Walter Hampton Parsons and Louis Teague Parsons in Bluefield, W.Va.

Sylva was a member of Redemption Baptist Church. She loved flowers and sewing, and most of all she loved her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Don Parsons, and two sisters, Arleen Holland and Ila Mahaffey.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 61 years, Albert Leon Hutchens of the home; one son, Randel Cohee; one daughter, Linda Miller and husband Craig of Hiddenite; one brother, Mack Parsons of Wilkesboro; one grandson, Jason Miller and wife Nicole of Hiddenite; and four great-grandchildren, RJ, Josh, Nevaeh, and Andy. She had numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers include Joshua Miller, RJ Miller, Andy Fairburn, Jason Miller, Kent McDaniels, and Wayne Robertson. Honorary Pallbearer is Wayne Moose.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 20, 2022, at 11 a.m. at Redemption Baptist Church. Rev. Roger Holland will officiate, and Jason Miller will speak. The family will receive Friends Friday, August 19, 2022, at Chapman Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m.
