Thomas Edward Lewis, 74, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on Friday, November 25, 2022, at the S. Mitchel Mack Hospice House in Mooresville. A native of Washington, D.C., he was born May 24, 1948, to the late Albert Lee Lewis and Marie Miller Alford Lewis.
Tom was a graduate of Elon College. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He began a career in music education and served as Southern Alamance High School’s Band Director for several years.
After relocating to Charlotte, Tom worked for Southern Bell Telephone Company in the comptrollers and customer service departments for over 18 years. He finished his career at Daimler Trucks as a supervisor and team leader and retired with over 20 years of service. Tom was a lover of all things with motors. He was an avid R/C boat enthusiast, loved to tinker with antique cars and boats and adored riding motorcycles. He was the “handiest” of all handymen and loved fixing and building anything that needed repair.
Tom is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Gayle Compton Lewis, and his daughter, Jennifer Sayre Lewis.
A private memorial service will be conducted at a future date.
