Vernon “Shorty” Delayne Brown, 76, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2022, at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center. He was born October 12, 1945, to the late Hubert “Hub” Brown and Florence (Miller) Brown.

Shorty was an active member of Pilgrim Baptist Church in Hiddenite. He loved to help people any way he could. He will be missed by all who loved and knew him.

In addition to his parents, Shorty was predeceased by his wife of 35 years, Betty Jean (Bunton) Brown; siblings, Mary A. Brown, Tommy Brown, Ned Brown, Ted Brown (June), Marie B. Gregory (James), and Donald “Tooty” Brown (Maxine).

He is survived by his brother, Johnny “Gene” Brown of Mooresville; sisters, Irene B. Sherrill of Denver, N.C., and Joyce B. Overcash of Mooresville; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, from 1 to 2 p.m. with a service following at 2 p.m. at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tom Lambert and Rev. Jerry Gwaltney officiating.

Burial will follow the service at Glenwood Memorial Park in Mooresville.
