Barbara Ann Shoemaker Waugh, 70, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, September 21, 2023, following a lengthy illness.
Barbara was born on October 23, 1952 in Annapolis, Md., to the late Roy Herman Shoemaker and Clara Mae Moose Shoemaker. She was a 1971 graduate of North Iredell High School. She worked in the credit and office management field at Trailblazer, Electrolux, The Credit Bureau of Iredell, and later retired from Manheim Statesville.
Although she was always a lover of music, it helped fill her days over the last few years as her health declined. She loved to blast The Eagles, and any Blues rock band, but found much peace in her favorite blues artist, Tab Benoit. She traveled many times and numerous places to hear him perform. She even headed out to sea on her first ever Blues Cruise.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her baby sister, Carolyn Shoemaker.
She married the love of her life, Marvin Randall Waugh, on September 8, 1979. They were blessed with almost 31 years of marriage before he was called home in 2010.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Cary Shoemaker Mahaffey (Chris) and Kristin Waugh Jacobs (John); her brothers, Jerry Shoemaker and Wade Shoemaker; her grandchildren, Joel Mahaffey and Deaton Mahaffey, Claudia Jacobs and Charlie Jaocbs; and her nephew and nieces, Jason Shoemaker (Ashton), Tara Cleary (Thomas), and Ashely Shoemaker.
A celebration of life service will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday September 26, 2023, at Hebron Baptist Church with Pastor Darren Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends in the church sanctuary one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the Hebron Baptist Church cemetery fund.
Nicholson Funeral Home is serving the family.
