Barbara “Bobbie” Steele Tsumas, 84, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2023. She was best known for her roles as wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
She has now been reunited with her father, Clifford Paul, and mother, Virginia Thompson Steele. She was a loving and devoted wife of Harry Lewis Tsumas.
Bobbie and Harry were married for 65 years and during this time she was a wonderful wife and thus created a wonderful marriage. She also set the foundation in two strong and dedicated children, Harry M. Tsumas (Ellen) and Harriet L. Tsitouris (Steve). Betty Jo Anderson is Bobbie’s surviving sister. She was blessed with five grandchildren, Anna Gordon (Zach), English Tsumas, Dustin Crawford (Lauren), Dylan Crawford (Haley) and Abbey Tsumas, who passed before her. In addition to the grandchildren, Bobbie nurtured five great grandchildren, Emma Rose and Charlotte Steele Gordon (Anna and Zach), Waylon Christopher and “soon to be born” Tatum Crawford (Dylan and Haley), and River Jean and Banks Crawford (Dustin and Lauren).
Bobbie also loved her dotting Labrador, Daisy. She attended Mitchell Community College and dedicated her life to serving her home and family in Statesville, N.C. An avid shell collector and lover of the beach, she spent lots of time in places like Cape Lookout, Harkers Island, the Florida Keys, Gulf Shores and multiple beaches along the Carolina coastline. In addition to picking up shells and walking the beaches, she spent many hours laughing and traveling with her girlfriends, best known as the PIGS. Some of her fondest memories are from their many years in Plantation Key, Fla. There, she enhanced her shell collection and entertained many friends and family. When in Statesville, she could easily be found outside at their home, cultivating blooms and beauty in every corner of the yard. Bobbie was always there for Harry Malone and Harriet’s friends, especially as they were in their formative years. Creating a welcoming home, entertaining and always the host, Bobbie (Mom, Grandma Bobbie, Meemaw), has been a blessing to the family and those that have known her. We have all been changed for the better by her life on earth and praise God for his gift of her to us.
Remembrance can be made to The Gordon Hospice House of Iredell County, 2341 Simonton Road Statesville, NC 28625 (www.HOIC.org).
Troutman Funeral Home is serving the family.
Harry, I am so sad in Bobby’s passing. My memories go back to Blvd. street when we were neighbors—-long ago but not so long.
