Betty Humble Dantzler, 90, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at the Summit Place at Mooresville.
She was born on March 1, 1933, in Asheboro, N.C., to the late Ben and Virginia Dixon Humble. Mrs. Dantzler was a 1951 graduate of Asheboro High School, where she lettered in basketball. She received her bachelor’s degree in education from Guilford College in 1955 and received her master’s degree in special education from the University of South Florida in 1971. Betty taught school for 40 years in Tampa, Fla., and White County, Ga., as well as Rowan and Randolph counties in North Carolina. Betty was a member of First Baptist Church in Mooresville, where she was in the XYZ Choir and a member of the Partners in Christ Sunday School class. She enjoyed going to church, socializing, going out to eat, and being with her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Don Funderburke, Shelton Sharpe Jr. and Bobby Dantzler; her daughter, Deborah Roberts; and her brother, Ben Humble Jr.
She is survived by her son, Chris Funderburke and companion, Sheri Rich; grandchildren, Sarah Funderburke, John Funderburke, Ashley Roberts Anderson and husband Kirk, and Zane Roberts; and great grandson, Oliver Anderson.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 19, from 1 to 2 p.m. with a service following at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Mooresville, with Pastor Eddie Hicks officiating. A celebration of life reception will follow in the church fellowship hall.
