Beulah Virginia Wyatt Ballard Harris Swicegood, 98 of Statesville, N.C., passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at Brookdale Peachtree Assisted Living.
Precious in the eyes of the Lord is the death of one of His saints. Psalm 116:15
Beulah, affectionately called Sis, passed from this life to the next on May 16, 2023. She was a lifelong resident of Iredell County in the Cool Spring community and for the last few months at Brookdale Peachtree Assisted Living. Preceding her in death were her parents, Claude and Nora Wyatt; and her husbands, Willie Ballard, Curlee Harris and Otis Swicegood. She was also preceded by an infant son, Neil Ray Ballard; son Garry L. Ballard; grandson Richard Cook; and beloved daughter-in-law, Dare S. Ballard. Also preceding her were siblings Toy Manning, Glenn Wyatt, Ethel Nance, Coyet Wyatt and Hilton Wyatt.
Beulah was a lifelong member of Union Chapel Baptist Church. She worked for many years at Flexnit Corp. and later at a childcare center for children with disabilities. She found her calling working with these children and enjoyed her years working there. She loved to sew, crochet and work with beads. She was very talented at working with her hands.
Beulah’s pride and joy was her family.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Judy Ballard Cook (Terry) of Washington, N.C.; sister, Marie Wyatt Chapman of Statesville; and sister-in-law, Bertha Ballard Bowen of Caycee, S.C. Also surviving are grandchildren, Neal Cook (Joy) of Charlotte, Melanie Cook Kelley (Rick) of Paint Lick, Ky., and Tiffany Cook Coltrain (Greg) of Belhaven, N.C.; her great-grandchildren, Jewel Cook, Alex Cook, Lauren Kelley, Virginia (Ginna) Cook, Braedan Kelley, Mollie Cook-Coltrain, Mallorie Cook-Coltrain and Kathryn Kelley. Beulah was blessed to have a stepfamily that she loved dearly. Surviving are step-children, Barbara Swicegood Fisher of Atlanta, Ga., Lonnie “Buddy” Swicegood (Sherry) of High Point, Gary Swicegood (Brenda) of Harmony, Rebecca Swicegood Petit (Al) of Statesville, Donna Swicegood of Statesville, and many step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life ceremony will be held on Sunday, May 21, 2023, at 3 p.m. at Union Chapel Baptist Church, with Rev. Robin Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends after the service in the church fellowship hall and will gather at 130 Warren Road on Saturday.
