Brenda Kay Sutherland, 66, of Statesville, N.C., passed away on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at her home. Brenda was born on April 5, 1956, in Dayton, Ohio, to Swanson and Thelma Sexton Sutherland.

Brenda was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Leroy Powers Jr. and Larry Wayne Powers.

Brenda is survived by her son, Howard Todd Sutherland; daughter, Misty Marie Ross (Balderas); grandchildren, Daydrian Reddick, Jada Reddick, Isabella Balderas, Alejandro “Alex” Balderas ll, Tristan Sutherland, Patrick Sutherland, Jacob Sutherland, Matthew Owensby, and Priscilla Jane Owensby; and many nieces and nephews.

Brenda was a joy to be around; she loved making people happy. She was an amazing mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed. Brenda loved to cook and share meals with her family. She was a true Hank Williams Jr. fan, and a God-fearing woman.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 30, 2023, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel beginning at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.

Brookdale Florist will be supplying the flowers.
