It is with great sadness that the family of David Gene Flatt Sr., 72, of Mooresville, N.C., must announce his passing on February 15, 2023. David’s wish was to have his friends and family remember the good times in lieu of having a funeral or memorial service. The family has chosen to honor these wishes.

David was born in Gary, Ind., to the late Floyd and Josephine Flatt. He attended high school in Morocco, Ind. David was married to Jacquelyn Flatt on March 4, 1969, in Crown Point, Ind. He retired from Union Pacific Railroad as well as The Walt Disney Company.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Josephine and Floyd, and his sister, JoEllen. He is survived by his wife Jackie; their children, Jeanette Avakian, David Flatt Jr., Michele Norton, and Amanda Westphal; brother and sister, Marianne Mellado and Tom Flatt; grandchildren, Kristopher Hagenbuch, Ashley Norton, Shaun Gambuzza, Katie Norton, Allison Flatt, Avery Flatt, and Brandon Westphal; and one great-grandchild, Abigail.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the American Heart Association, P. O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23058-5216, in David’s honor.
