David McKinley Beam Jr., 87, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at Abernethy Laurels in Newton, N.C. He was born on April 6, 1935, in Iredell County, N.C., to the late David and Blanche Stevenson Beam.
Mr. Beam was a member of McKendree United Methodist Church in Mooresville, where he was a church treasurer and a member of the UMC Men’s club. He was retired from Duke Energy. He was a founding member and captain with the Mooresville Rescue Squad and was a retired captain with the Mooresville Volunteer Fire Department. He was also on the board of directors with Bandy’s Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Beam enjoyed gardening, farming, livestock, fishing, hunting, and carpentry. He loved NASCAR, bluegrass music, eating, and spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Proctor Beam; and brother, Dennis Beam.
He is survived by his children, Ray Beam and wife Michelle, Nolan Beam and wife Karen, and Donna Mayes and husband Ray; sister, Carolyn Simpson and husband Bill; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 12, from 1 to 2 p.m. with a service following at 2 p.m. at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Gerhart officiating. Burial will follow the service at Glenwood Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials of sympathy may be made in David’s name to McKendree United Methodist Church, 291 McKendree Road, Mooresville, NC 28117.
