David Wesley Upright, 56, of Cleveland, N.C., passed away on February 3, 2023, at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville, N.C.

David was born on January 18, 1967. He now has a new body in heaven. He was joyously reunited with his father and mother, Sam Allen and Ann Prichard Upright, along with his sister, Sandra Mooe. He was also predeceased by his grandparents, Carl Prichard, Edith Payne, and James and Lucille Upright.

David attended Iredell County Day Care Center for Handicapped Children before going into the Iredell County School System and then aging out of the Mooresville School System. In adulthood, David attended the Iredell Adult Learning Center and RHA. David attended Beulah Heights Wesleyan Church for many years as well as Neighborhood Church. He loved to sing “Amazing Grace” and Christmas carols. He loved to walk on the beach. David also enjoyed going on tractor rides with the antique tractor club. He was always saying he was going to take Mike’s (brother-in-law) job driving the “gendy truck.” He loved potato chips, McDonald’s fries, Mountain Dew and homemade ice cream.

David is survived by brothers, Allen Upright (Melody) and Teddy Upright; sisters, Kathy Martin (William) and Joyce Ketchie (Mike); and a brother-in-law, Kevin Mooe. Also surviving are nieces, Dawn Linebarrier, Leigh Ann Kyles and Jonie Martin, along with nephews Chris Martin, Ricky Ketchie, Ben Ketchie, Adam Upright, Casey Upright, Rusty Upright and Garrett Upright; and 12 great nephews and nieces.

A memorial celebration of life service will be held Saturday, February 11, at 2 p.m. at Beulah Heights Wesleyan Church in Troutman with Rev. Trent Patterson officiating. A short visitation will follow the service. Burial will be at Bethesda Presbyterian Church in Statesville at a later date.

The family would like to thank the staff at Gordon’s Hospice House for their wonderful care of David and our family.
