Edward James Perrett, 79, passed away on Monday, April 17, 2023, in Statesville, N.C. He was born on January 23, 1944, to Alfonso Perrett and Mary Flasco Perrett.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joann Perrett; his brother, Anthony Perrett; and his brothers-in-law, Gary Rigby and Frank Lazorisnak.

Ed is survived by his children, Brian Perrett, Marissa Perrett, Melissa Jones, and Jonathan Schellhorn; his grandchildren, Brianna Rodriguez, Aleah Rodriguez, Kennedy Jones, Riley Schellhorn, Samantha Schellhorn, and Brinlee Schellhorn; his brother, Richard Bell; his sisters, Georgia Richards (Charles), Mary Rigby, and Debra Lazorisnak; and many nieces and nephews.

Ed graduated from Liberty High School in 1963. After graduation he joined the U.S. Navy, working on the flight deck of the USS America, serving from 1963-1967. During his time in the Navy, he participated in the rescue of the USS Liberty after it was attacked in June 1967. Ed was extremely honored to have had served his country and also to have had the opportunity to travel the world. Ed eventually retired from General Motors.

Ed was an excellent cook, a car enthusiast, and a NASCAR fan. He and his son enjoyed watching races at the Charlotte Motor Speedway together.

A visitation will be held Monday, May 1, 2023, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 11:30 a.m. An inurnment with military honors will be held on May 1, 2023, at 2 p.m. at the VA Cemetery in Salisbury, N.C.
