Edward “Ed” Marcano, 91, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on Tuesday, July 11, 2023.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Antoinette Marous Marcano; daughters, Sharon Hanzl (Jerry), Susan Panak (David), and Christy Lee (Roy); grandchildren, Benjamin Hanzl (Crystal), David Panak Jr. (Donald), Mallory Panak, and Zachary Panak (Kaitlynn); great grandchildren Madilyn, Sienna, Nolan, and Oliver; brothers-in-law, Thomas (Cathy) and Laddie (Donna); and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was born on October 14, 1931 in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Aniceto and Gabriela Alvarez Marcano. Mr. Marcano was a U.S. Army veteran, where he served in the Korean War and 31st Infantry Reg. 7th Division. He loved visiting and hanging out with other veterans at the Welcome Home Veterans at Richard’s Coffee Shop. He enjoyed boating, woodworking, and gifting his projects to friends and family. He loved his family and spending time with them and his neighbors. Mr. Marcano was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church in Mooresville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his first wife, Jean Stephan Marcano; sisters, Gloria Nemerovsky and Ramona Onachilla; and brothers-in-law, Manuel Nemerovsky and Andy Onachilla.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, August 9, at 11 a.m. at St. Therese Catholic Church with Father Mark Lawlor officiating. Please wear patriotic clothing to the service to honor Ed’s service and love for our country. The Patriot Guard will be leading the procession from St. Therese Catholic Church to Salisbury National Cemetery, where military honors will be presented at 2 p.m.
