Ella Louise Bratcher Morrison, 90, of Statesville, N.C., passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 30, 2023, in Clemmons, N.C. She was born on June 7, 1932 in Statesville to Andison (Anderson Andrew) Bratcher and Martha Jane Bratcher. She grew up in Statesville and attended Iredell-Statesville Schools.
In 1951, she married Horace Monroe Morrison Sr., who passed away on October 5, 2012. Together they had five children, Sylvia, Francine, Horace, Wanda, and Larry. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, who always put her family first.
Louise worked for Iredell-Statesville Schools, where she was known for her love of children. After retiring, she spent the rest of her life enjoying her hobbies, which included cooking and gardening, and spending time with her family.
Her love for gardening was inherited from her father, with whom she discussed best planting techniques, crops, and the joys and challenges of gardening, developing a deep bond that lasted well into her adulthood. Her love of cooking, however, came from her mother, who taught her the secrets of making food with love. These activities provided her with a sense of purpose and fulfillment by allowing her to connect with her family and community around her, create something beautiful and nourishing, and leave a lasting legacy for others to enjoy.
In addition to her parents and husband, Louise was preceded in death by her daughter, Volivia Francine Morrison; brother, John Andrew Bratcher Sr.; sister, Dora Elizabeth Bratcher Derrick; grandsons, Melvin Morrison, Keon Baker, and Jamal Turner; daughter-in-law, Shelia Hogue Morrison; and son-in-law Samuel Singletary.
She is survived by her children, Sylvia M. Singletary, Horace Morrison Jr., Wanda M. (Kenneth) Clark, and Larry Morrison; grandchildren, Clarrisa (Sherry) Fair, Shawn Morrison, April Clark, Kenneth (April) Clark Jr., Michael (Keshawn) Clark, Daniel Brown, Anthony Holloway, and Elizabeth (Casey) Spears; and nieces and nephews, Barbara (Harry) Lackey, Carol (Junior) Parker, Nephew John “Jay” (Linda) Bratcher, Wendy Bratcher, Phyllis (Gill) Ward, and Delores “Dee Dee” Bratcher.
Louise will be greatly missed by her family, who will always remember her as a kind, loving, and generous woman.
