Freda Whitson Grandt, 61, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on Friday, March 3, 2023, at her residence. She was born on April 9, 1961, in Yancey County, N.C., to the late Albert and Opal Johnson Whitson.

Freda enjoyed reading and working in her vegetable and flower garden. She was always laughing and joking, and she loved being with her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Kent Grandt; brother, Gary Whitson; and sister, Carcie Lee.

She is survived by her son, Tyler Grandt and his companion, Christina Kelley; stepson, David K. Grandt II; sisters, Ronna Jones and husband Roger, Betty Brawley, Donna Jones, and Darlene Vincent; and grandchildren, Zara and Santiago Grandt.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 8, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 9, at Liberty Baptist Church with Rev. Eddie Graham officiating. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.
