Freddie Ray Gilbert, 71, of Statesville, N.C., died Saturday, January 28, 2023, at the Gordon Hospice House.
He was born in Iredell County on April 16, 1951, to the late William Charlie Gilbert and Lottie Trivette Gilbert. He was also preceded in death by a son, Donald James “Jamie” Gilbert.
Freddie graduated from South Iredell High School and then served his country in the U.S. Army for 20 years, with eight of those years being in Germany. He was married to the former Cindy Haithcox Gilbert for 16 years. He took her to Germany twice to see some of the places he had been while in the Army.
Freddie and Cindy also travel all over the United States on motorcycles along with their friends Randy and Janet Wyatt. They were also members of the Statesville Shag Club, where they made lots of friends. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where he was very active. More than anything, Freddie was a loving, caring man and a wonderful husband.
In addition to his wife Cindy, those left to cherish his memory include two daughters, Jennifer Latini (Bobby) and Maranda Elwood; two grandchildren, Madalyn Lloyd and Noah Latini; and a brother, Jimmy Gilbert (Barbara).
There are no services scheduled at this time.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Helping Hands Fund, (which Freddie started), 1950 Salisbury Road, Statesville, NC 28677.
