Mrs. Gayle Beard Munday, 82, of High Point, N.C., and formerly of Statesville, N.C., passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, N.C.
Gayle was born March 7, 1941, in Iredell County and was the daughter of the late William Lawson Beard and Oradell Harward Beard. She cherished the life-long friendships she formed growing up in Statesville, where she was a member of First ARP Presbyterian Church. After graduating from Statesville Senior High School in 1959, she attended Appalachian State University and graduated from Mitchell College. Gayle later married Charles Wayne Munday, who passed away in 1998. Together, they started and owned the Biscuit House restaurants in Winston-Salem, N.C., until Gayle retired in 2003. In an era of short tweets and texts, Gayle’s beautifully written stream-of-consciousness style letters and notes were entertaining and treasured.
She is survived by her son Scott Munday and his wife Lisa, son David Munday, granddaughter Justine Dellinger and her husband CJ, grandson Grant Munday, and great grandson Hank Dellinger.
Gayle will be remembered for the abundant love shared with her family, her appreciation of and loyalty to her dear friends, and her strong-willed, independent spirit.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. at Oakwood Cemetery on Friday, September 8, 2023. Reverend John Parks will be officiating. Gayle will lie in state at Troutman Funeral Home on Friday from 9 to 10:30 a.m., prior to the funeral hour.
Troutman Funeral Home is serving the family.
