Hugh “Speed” Howard Nicholson, 92, of Statesville, N.C., passed away on Monday, September 18, 2023, at Autumn Care of Statesville. Born on April 28, 1931, in Yadkin County, N.C., he was the son of the late Walter Nicholson and Viola Lewis Nicholson.

Mr. Nicholson was a member of Shiloh Presbyterian Church in Statesville for 69 years. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Era. “Speed” retired as plant manager after almost 50 years from OW Slane Glass Company in Statesville.

In addition to his parents, Walter and Viola Nicholson, he was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Mamie Parker Nicholson; two sisters; and eight brothers.

Those left to cherish his memory include his sons, Howard Nicholson and his wife Pam, Jeffrey Nicholson and his wife Kim, and Stephen Nicholson and his wife Elaine; his seven grandchildren; and his seven great-grandchildren.

A Graveside Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, September 22, 2023, at Shiloh Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Lewis Ferry Road, Statesville) with Pastor Liz Troyer officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the graveside.
