Jacob C. “Jake” Compton, 89, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 1, 2023. He was born June 6,1934, in Iredell County, N.C., to the late Robert Bentley Compton and Flossie Troutman Compton.
Mr. Compton was a graduate of Troutman High School. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army. He was married to Sarah Elizabeth Nantz Compton, and they shared 47 years of marriage before her passing in 2010. Jake was employed with JC Penney Company and Ingersoll Rand. He was an active member of West Corinth Baptist Church until his recent illness and served as a deacon, usher, and a member of the Church Building Committee.
Jake truly loved his family and was always willing to be there for them. When Mother suffered from Alzheimer’s disease, he was constant in providing for her needs during her long illness. He never met a stranger and always had a quick smile for everyone.
Along with his parents and wife Lib, he was preceded in death by his twin brother, Robert Compton, brothers Herbert Compton and Ike Compton; sisters, Evelyn Sprinkle and Ada Horton; and son, Michael Leazer; and grandson Doug Leazer.
Left to cherish his memory are his sister, Jeanne Compton; his sons Fred Leazer (Brenda) and Kenny Leazer; daughter-in-law, Candy Leazer; and daughter Rachael Freeman (Jay) of Leesville, S.C.
