Janet Rae Adams Morton, 84, left this life behind on April 19, 2023, at home surrounded by her loving family. She lived a good life and loved with her whole heart. She was a giver of hugs and homemade desserts. She loved to laugh, play golf, watch sports, drink wine, and spend time with her closely knit group of friends dubbed “the Golden Girls.” She was kind, stubborn and fun. She never missed an opportunity to tell her family how very proud she was of every one of us.

Janet was born November 23, 1938, in Chesterfield County, S.C., to Odis Tillman Adams and Ethel Sellers Adams. She attended school in Anson County, N.C., and Wingate College. She was married to Terry Morton from 1959 to 2002. They had three sons they raised in Charlotte and then Mooresville-Lake Norman. She worked as a secretary and administrative assistant in banking, health care and education.

Janet is survived by her children, Sonny Morton and wife Lorrie of Mooresville, Mark Morton and wife KayLynne of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; and Greg Morton and wife Kim of Mooresville; grandchildren, Michelle Meadows (Aaron) of Mooresville, Garrett Morton of Mooresville, Tyler Morton (Rosemary) of Kannapolis, Adam Morton of Cornelius, Sarah Morton of Mooresville, and Leah Morton of Mooresville.

A celebration of life service will be held at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home in Mooresville at 6 p.m. on May 1, followed by visitation at 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages a donation to Hospice of Iredell County or a charity of your choice.
