Jeffrey William Leber Sr., 66, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away March 20, 2023. He was born to Zacquelin Leber and James Leber Sr. on July 4, 1956, in Charlotte, N.C.
As suggested by his birth date, Jeff was a firework of a personality, never meeting a stranger and full of life, love, and jokes.
A beloved father, husband, and friend, Jeff spent 33 years working at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center in Plant Operations and started working the gas docks at Midway Marina at age 15 and was known on the docks as “Peanut.”
Jeff loved growing a garden to share fresh vegetables with friends, family, and strangers alike and spending vacations at the beach with his wife and family. He had many talents, including oil painting and playing the drums. He bragged often about his shark tooth-hunting abilities and telling the time down to the minute by looking at the sun. He welcomed his children’s friends into his home as though they were his own, music and laughter pouring out the door, being heard clearly in the driveway. Jeff often told people on their first visit to his house, “make yourself at home; if you ain’t at home in my house, you ain’t at home anywhere!”
Jeff was preceded in death by his mother, Zacquelin Leber, and his beloved uncle, William “Bill” Brinkley.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Lisa; four children, Jeffrey, Amanda, Scarlette, and Granger; two older brothers, and his father.
In respect of his wishes, the family will not hold a service. Jeff was known for his phrases and good faith in people; he wanted people to “pay it forward” and “keep it with you.” He opted out of a funeral and made it known he wants to be celebrated through the sharing of stories, and in being kind to a stranger. The family and friends Jeff left behind are devastated by the loss of such a wonderful man but comforted in knowing his lessons and love live on through their actions. In lieu of flowers, do an act of kindness today and everyday.
Cavin-Cook Funeral Home & Crematory, Mooresville, is serving the family.
Jeff: That fishing trip to the coast with you will always be in mind going forward. I do as you asked each time I went to the coast.
Many times of going to Lake Norman hospital to work was a treat because of seeing you, buddy. It will never be the same going there after all these years. Rest easy, brother. Hold me a place on the banks of Jordan.
