Jerry Morrison Gibson, 85, of Statesville, N.C., left this earth for his Heavenly home, in the early morning hours of Thursday, August 31, 2023.
Mr. Gibson was born October 22, 1937, in Iredell County, N.C. He was the son of the late Belle Adams Gibson. Jerry was a graduate of Statesville Senior High School, and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Wake Forest University. He faithfully served Faith Baptist Church as the Minister of Music, Deacon, and Youth Leader for 40-plus years. He later joined Bear Creek Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, Choir member and helped with the music. Jerry made his career as an accountant with Thomasville Furniture and shared his knowledge with many nonprofits over the years. In 1972 Jerry married his beloved wife, Betty Harper Gibson, who faithfully cared for him, especially recently as his health declined. Jerry served with the Cool Springs Volunteer Fire Department for 51 years, and enjoyed coin collecting, tennis, softball and watching his favorite team, the UNC Tarheels.
Along with his mother, Jerry was preceded in death by two sisters, Gladys Sipes and Ruth A. Little, and one brother, Paul Gibson.
Those left to cherish the life and legacy of Jerry Gibson include his wife Betty; his son Andy (Amy) and their children, Abby (Blake), and Amber (Luke); son Stephen and his children, Brylee, Brooklyn, Braceyn, and Brett; and one great granddaughter, South.
The family will visit with friends on Saturday evening, September 2, 2023, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Cool Springs Volunteer Fire Department. A funeral celebrating the amazing life of Jerry Gibson will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 3, 2023, at Diamond Hill Baptist Church, 2320 E Broad Street, Statesville, NC 28625.
