Jewel Madison Thompson, 92, of Statesville, N.C., died Monday, April 10, 2023. Born August 29, 1930, in Statesville, she was the daughter of the late Sherrill Martin Madison and Ruby Douglas Madison.
A long time member of Oakland Presbyterian Church, Jewel served as a former Sunday School teacher and an elder. She graduated from Statesville High School in 1948 as Salutatorian and attended Mitchell College. She retired from the accounting department of Gordon Industries Inc. of Statesville in 1995.
Survivors include her two sons, Dennis Ray Thompson and wife Linda, of High Point and James Timothy Thompson and wife Mary, of Statesville; grandson, Matthew Thompson (Jenifer Kaczorowski); a great granddaughter, Emma; a great grandson, Carter, all of Mount Holly; a step-grandson, Johnny Taylor (Crystal) ; a step granddaughter, Ashley Taylor Peek (Justin), step great-great granddaughter Charlotte Annabelle Peek, all of Archdale, N.C.; a step granddaughter, Cindy Lynn Taylor of Thomasville, N.C.; a step great grandson, Joseph Powell of Greensboro; and many nieces and nephews and sister-in-law Doris Thompson of Kentucky
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James T.R. Thompson; a brother, Claude D. Madison Sr. (Lois); two sisters, Ferne M. Sexton and Jean M. Bingham (E.A); an infant brother, Ferry Madison; and sister-in-law Julia Nantz (Leonard).
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 15, 2023, in the chapel of Nicholson Funeral Home in Statesville with Rev. Steve Snipes officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
