John was an incredibly talented carpenter who could do the highest quality finish work. At midlife he went to nursing school and became an emergency department RN. After retiring he volunteered preparing free tax returns for the elderly and low income. John was a kind and caring person, extremely smart, and lover of nature.
Johnny, many decades have passed since SHS days and I still remember the fun loving guy you were. Your life work as a nurse helped many in need. Rest In Peace, my friend.
Oh, my I could not begin to even try to talk about his importance in the years I first returned to Statesville. He was forever helping me out with some ridiculous project I’d thought up. But beyond everything we did together in those lively years his help building my house is and has always been a precious gift for which I will always be grateful. My life now just would not be what it is without his friendship and help. This is not an exaggeration. My best to Jim and Abe and the rest of the family.
