Joyce Barnette Mayhew, 82, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on Thursday, June 29, 2023, at Abernathy Laurels in Newton, N.C.

She was born July 9, 1940, in Iredell County, N.C., to the late Cameron Barnette and Lucille Honeycutt Barnette. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Luther “Fat” Barnette, Louis “T-Bone” Barnette, Dean Beaver, Evelyn Erwin and Tom Barnette; and a great-grandson, Maxwell Norton.

Joyce was a Mooresville native and a member of McKendree United Methodist Church. She was a “homebody” and loved having her family around her.

She is survived by her daughters, Myra Caldwell (Scott) and Cindy Hawkins; brother, BA Barnette (Betty); grandchildren, Cammie Hornaday (Ronnie), Josh Williams, Holli, Nicole, and Hannah Hawkins; great-grandchildren, Lily and Maddie Hornaday, Will and Aerial Williams, Cameron Curlee, Bryan Yoder, and Conner Norton.

Services will be held on Wednesday, July 5, at 2 p.m. at McKendree United Methodist Church with Chad Nelson officiating. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.
