Lorene C. Johnston, 92, of Statesville, N.C., passed away Thursday, August 24, 2023, at the Gordon Hospice House.
Mrs. Johnston was born January 23, 1931, in Davidson County, N.C. She was the daughter of the late Frank Cole and Nellie Hailey Cole. She was a graduate of Reeds High School in Lexington, N.C., and Mitchell Community College. She was employed as a dietary provider at Davis Regional Medical Center and was a volunteer with Gordon Hospice House and Davis Regional Medical Center. She enjoyed spending time at the Iredell Senior Center, line dancing, and playing cornhole and canasta.
Lorene was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Carl Glenn Johnston, who passed away in 2004.
Along with her parents and husband, Mrs. Johnston was preceded in death by her son, Kelvin Johnston; granddaughter, Courtney Johnston; and her sisters Mary Thompson, Betty Slemp and Kate Smith.
Those left to cherish the life and legacy of Lorene Johnston include her daughters, Carol Shepherd, and Lisa (Eddie) Kimball; her son, Zeb (Robin) Johnston; her grandchildren, Shelley Shepherd, Chris (Julianna) Johnston, Travis Johnston, and Ryan Johnston; 12 great grandchildren; her brother, John Cole; her sister, Virginia Leonard; and several special nieces and nephews.
A graveside service for Mrs. Johnston will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at Iredell Memorial Gardens. A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday afternoon, August 27, 2023, at 3 p.m. at Christ Boulevard United Methodist Church. Pastor Bridgette Thornton and Hospice Chaplain Lynn Kunkle will officiate.
