Marie Moore Cowan, 96, the daughter of the late Rev. Glenn Lester Moore and Mary Eliza Sloan Moore, was born in Iredell County, N.C., on June 30, 1926. She departed this life on January 30, 2023.
She was a devoted mother and caregiver, helping to raise her siblings after the death of her mother. She also was a caregiver to her father and brother, Calvin Pressley, during their final years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her three brothers, Manuel B. Moore Sr., Rufus Moore, and Calvin Pressley Moore; three sisters, Daisy Bell Moore Johnson, Mary Elizabeth Moore Lawrence, and Diane Moore Wilson; brother-in-law, Freddie Lawrence; and sister-in-law, Cassie Bell Allison Moore.
She leaves to cherish the memory of her life her children, Mozetta Dobbins of Troutman, N.C., Betty (Aldine) Cloud of Winston-Salem, N.C., Hugh Clayton (Mavis) Cowan Jr. of Stone Mountain, Ga., and Nettie (Quentin) Johnson of Troutman, N.C.; one brother, Michael Moore of Fort Washington, Md.; three sisters, Sharon (Donnie) Campbell and Colette Jeffries, both of Indian Trail, N.C., and Yvonne (Michael) Umphrey of Raleigh, N.C.; ten grandchildren, April Janine Dobbins of Greensboro, N.C., Tammy (Scott) Hughes of Stockbridge, Ga., Adrian (Shauntay) Cloud of Troutman, N.C., Clayton Javon Cowan of Stone Mountain, Ga., Loveian Cowan of Lithonia, Ga., Darnell (Vicki) Cowan of League City, Texas, Andrea (Leo) Godwin of Douglasville, Ga., Crystal (Dani) Feimster of New Haven, Conn., Quentin Johnson II of Charlottesville, Va., and Tarrin Johnson of Mooresville, N.C.; 18 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Charlie-Jean Cherry Moore of San Antonio, Texas, and Rachel Sherrill and Ethel Cowan, both of Troutman, N.C.; one brother-in-law, Richard Cowan of Troutman, N.C.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and dear friends.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, February, 4, 2023, from 1 until 2 p.m. at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. in the Bunch-Johnson Chapel with Minister Scott Hughes officiating. Burial will be private.
