Melvin Garner “MG” Bowes, 78, of Statesville, N.C., passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2023, surrounded by his family after a lengthy illness.

MG was born on November 11, 1944, in Henderson, N.C., and was the son of the late Silas Bowes and Christine Mosley Bowes. Before his illness, MG was an avid hunter and fisherman, and he enjoyed trading guns. He dearly loved his family and spending time with them. MG and his wife were members of South River Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, MG was preceded in death by his grandson, Zachary Garner Bowes; sister, Barbara; and brother, Donnie.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of fifty-seven years, Linda Meadows Bowes; son, Brian Keith Bowes (Michele); granddaughter, Beverly Elizabeth Bowes; brother, Ronnie; and sisters, Jeanette and Patsy.

A celebration of life will be held at South River Baptist Church at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Field of Faith at South River Baptist Church, 2659 S. Chipley Ford Road, Statesville, NC 28625 or Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2341 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
