Rebecca Ann “Becky” Mayhew Gibson, 88, of Charlotte, N.C., and formerly of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on Sunday, August 13, 2023. Born May 25, 1935, in Iredell County, she was the youngest child of the late Luke and Lottie Mayhew.

Mrs. Gibson was a retired CNA who worked at Methodist Home for the Aged in Charlotte. She was a born caregiver, having known from an early age that she wanted to help the elderly and she did just that for 30 years. After retiring, she moved back home to Mooresville where she attended the Mooresville Church of God. She was a singer with a beautiful voice, often using her voice to entertain family and friends. She also loved going to yard sales. But her most important love was that of family. She was a very loving and caring soul with a great sense of humor and fun spirit.

She was preceded in death by her son, Ricky Gibson; and siblings, Mary Elizabeth “Libby” Dorton, LP “Pete” Mayhew, Larry Mayhew, and Franklin Eugene “Gene” Mayhew.

Mrs. Gibson is survived by her daughter, Tina Gibson and husband Michael Hough; grandson, Dallas Garrett Gibson and wife Hannah Gibson; great grandchildren, Ava Grace Gibson and Knox James Gibson; daughter-in-law, Norma Gibson; along with nieces and nephews, Terry and Rose Dorton, Jimmy and Mary Ann Dorton, Rex and Kathy Mayhew, Paula Mayhew, Virginia “Ginny” Robinson, Ricky Mayhew and Gina Mayhew. The family would like to extend a special thank you to her beloved mailman, Shawn Chance, for his amazing love and friendship.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at the Cavin-Cook Funeral Home Chapel, Mooresville, with Rev. John Miles officiating.
