Mrs. Sandra M. Smith of Statesville, N.C., passed away on Friday, December 1, 2023, at her home in Statesville, N.C.

She was born May 2, 1950, in Richmond, Va., to the late Joseph H. and Naomi C. Brooking.

She is survived by her loving husband of 20 years, David S. Smith; sons, Erik K. Overby of Sandston, Va., Cpl. Thomas E. Proffitt III (USMC) of Ypsilanti, Mich., and daughter, Tamatha E. Stewart (Randy) of Statesville, N.C.; three step-children, Amber G. Jimenez (Pablo) of Ft. Worth, Texas, HM3 Brandon P. Smith – USN (Cynthia) of Olin, N.C., and Nichole D. Fabela (Jesse) of Saginaw, Texas; four grandchildren, Brianna Vincent, Dameon Proffitt, Cody and Adalynn Stewart; nine step-grandchildren, Makayla and Liliana Jimenez, Elijah, Lucas and Allison Smith, Madisyn Barnes, Sophia, Antonio, and Adrianna Fabela; and one great step-granddaughter, Ila Sauceda. Mrs. Smith is also survived by her sister, Cathy B. Phillips (Mike) of Huntersville, N.C.; nephew, Joseph Phillips (Lydia); and many other extended family members.

A Celebration of Life will be held at South River Baptist Church, 2659 S. Chipley Ford Road, Statesville, N.C., at 2 p.m.. on Monday, December 18, 2023. The family will receive friends at 1 p.m. prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given in her memory to Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
