Mrs. Shirley Ann “Mickey” Dowd Brantley, 88, of Statesville, N.C., passed away at her home on Thursday, April 6, 2023.
Mrs. Brantley was born in Pittsburg, Pa., on May 19, 1934, the daughter of the late Roger J. Dowd and Mary Douds Dowd. She attended South Hills High School and proudly served her country during the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Air Force. She married her beloved husband, Charles “Chuck” Lee Brantley Sr. on November 20, 1954. Together they shared more than 65 years of marriage before Chuck’s death in 2020. Mickey was a homemaker who found joy in raising her family.
In addition to her parents, Mickey was preceded in death by two sons, Daniel Brantley and Charles “Chad” Brantley Jr.; a daughter, Judith Ann Brantley; two grandsons, William and Thomas Harwell; her brother, Roger Dowd; and her sisters, Sylvia Puza and Beatrice Trent.
Mrs. Brantley is survived by her seven children, Theresa B. Kindley (Ken) of Lincolnton, N.C., Lisa B. Onley (Ken) of Statesville, Alice B. Harwell (Terry) of Statesville, Peggy B. Bolens (Ricky) of Sandy Ridge, N.C., Andrea B. Faw Faust (Stephen) of Union Grove, Laura B. Haneline (Brandon) of Statesville and John Brantley of Wilmington, N.C. She is further survived by 14 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church with Rev. Father Thomas J. Kessler officiating. A rosary service will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening, April 11, 2023, at Troutman Funeral Home followed by receiving of friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Burial will be held in Oakwood Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be her son and son-in-laws.
