Sidney Bumgarner Jr., 87, passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Born on August 20, 1935, in Catawba County, N.C., he was the son of the late Sidney Bumgarner Sr. and Ella Abernethy Bumgarner.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Shirley Lackey Bumgarner, whom he married on July 7, 1961; his sisters, Inez Lail, Shirley Hinson, Margie Hilton, and Ada Setzer; and his brothers, Ernest Bumgarner, Hugh Bumgarner, Coyte Bumgarner, Forrest Bumgarner, and Gerald Bumgarner.

Those left to cherish his memory include his two sons, Philip Bumgarner and his wife Lisa, and Stacey Bumgarner; his two grandsons, Bryan Bumgarner and his wife Stephanie, and Todd Bumgarner; great-granddaughter, Brianna Bumgarner; and great-grandson, Jaxton Bumgarner.

Mr. Bumgarner was a veteran of the United States Army, having served overseas in Korea. He retired from the furniture manufacturing industry.

Mr. Bumgarner will lie in state from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Monday, April 3, 2023, at Nicholson Funeral Home. A graveside service with Military Honors will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at Oakwood Cemetery with Reverend John Parks officiating.
