Mr. Solomon Jackson, 65, of 114 Greylin Loop, Apartment 102, Statesville, N.C., who was affectionately called “Sol,” was born in Newark, N.J., on February 27, 1957, and was the son of Julia Claire White. He departed this life on Friday, February 3, 2023, at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville, N.C., following an extended illness.
Mr. Jackson attended Arts High School in Newark, N.J., and served with the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged. He received several decorations, medals, badges, citations, and campaign ribbons, including Good Conduct Medal, Rifle Expert Badge, Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal, Pistol Marksman Badge, Good Conduct Medal and Sea Service Dep Ribbon. His military education included Field Artillery Fire Control courses in December 1975, Defensive Driving Course in June of 1979, Fundamental of Map Reading Course in August of 1977, Map and Aerial Photo Course in March 1981, NCO Leadership course in August of 1977, Operations Chief Course in October 1981 and Recruiter School in June of 1979.
He was united in marriage to Marva Houpe Jackson, who survives.
Mr. Jackson was preceded in death by a niece, Ebony White.
He leaves to cherish the memory of his life his wife, Marva Houpe Jackson of the home; his mother, Julia Claire White of New Jersey; his daughter, Genesis Houpe of Statesville; his brother, Anthony White of Los Vegas; his grandchildren, Eethan Houpe, Lukus Houpe, Carter Houpe and Kayden Houpe; his brother-in-law, Sherwood Antony “Tony” Houpe of Statesville; his aunts and uncles, Frances Jackson, Jean Chambers, Mary Jackson, John Neil, Ronald Jackson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, neighbors and dear friends.
Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Friday, February 10, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home. Bishop Sam Thomas will officiate. Members of the family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 until 2 p.m., one hour prior to the service, but will assemble at the residence at other times.
