Tess Ray Gunther, 81, of Mount Ulla, N.C., passed away suddenly while battling cancer on Saturday, March 11, 2023. She was born May 29, 1941, to Charles and Hazel Ray in Roaring Spring, Pa.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Doris Musselman and Joetta Tipton; and brother, Samuel Ray.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Fred Gunther; son John; granddaughters Emily and Grace; plus many nieces and nephews. Emily and Grace were Tess’s most adored.
A devoted caregiver from an early age, she worked as career in nursing as a RN for the Cleveland clinic in Ohio. She also worked for many years of service at the Brian Center nursing home in Mooresville.
Tess was a kind, generous, compassionate and great listener. She showed a genuine interest in others over herself and was an example of a true Christian. Tess would take the time, when speaking to others, to understand what was actually going on in their lives. She especially enjoyed time with family and friends. She provided comfort and solace to those in need. Tess was one of a kind and to be loved by her was being truly blessed. She unselfishly supported her family through many celebrations and challenges of their lives.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 25, from 10 to 11 a.m. with a Celebration of Life following at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Cavin-Cook Funeral Home.
